Happy Birthday Ben!

At the beginning of the week we went to the ranch with Mike and Becca to celebrate Ben's 27th birthday. There's no better birthday breakfast than a fat-filled dutch oven feast you made yourself.

While breakfast was being prepared, Cameron was busy catching grasshoppers. At first it was just for fun, but then the idea of using them as fishing bait made the task much more exciting.

He stored them away safely in this contraption. The only problem was that when he took the top off to put one in, others jumped out. Needless to say there were only about five in there at a time despite the fact he caught about thirty.

After breakfast, we headed up to the lake to fish. Although the grasshoppers didn't turn out to be the best bait, we were still quite successful at catching fish. Here is a picture of the one Cameron caught. After an unsuccessful trip back to fishy life, we ended up taking it back to the house to cook it. Cameron couldn't wait to eat it, but when Ben was gutting it in the stream it slipped out of his hands and washed away. He could have gone after it, but he was worried Jake would go after him. Cameron was pretty upset.

Here is a picture of the fish Jake caught. He really liked reeling it in, but wasn't too thrilled to have it flipping around by him. He smiled well for this picture though.

Ben's family and the Pace's joined us for dinner. Jake couldn't get enough of Robin's frozen fruit salad. He even resorted to eating it like a dog.
He was being quite a ham about it. I can't decide which of these pictures is cuter, so I'm putting them both.

For some reason this one reminds me a little bit of pictures of my brother Brian when he was little.

After dinner Ben and I took a four wheeler ride up to the spot where we got engaged. The sun had just set and the sky was absolutely beautiful. We were so mad we forgot to bring the camera. On the way back we saw a huge black moose running away from us. It was one of the neatest things we've seen. I think it made Ben's birthday.
